"A private tour is expensive." That is only partly true. For a group of 4–6 people, a private tour often works out cheaper than four or six individual group tickets. Let's look at the numbers.
What is a group tour?
The standard option. You join other tourists (20–40 people) on a shared boat with a fixed schedule. Advantages: cheaper per person (from 1,500 THB), organised, Russian-speaking guide (with us). Disadvantages: fixed timetable, sometimes crowded at snorkelling spots, you can't linger where you loved it most.
What is a private tour?
You hire a boat (speedboat, catamaran or yacht) exclusively for your group. Route, departure time, stops — entirely your choice. The guide is assigned to you personally. Speedboat for up to 8 people: from 8,000–12,000 THB per day.
"A group of 6 pays 1,500–2,000 THB each for a private speedboat — comparable to a group tour, but the boat is yours."
When a private tour is better value
Group of 4 or more people. Special requirements (allergies, young children, elderly parents). You want an early start (before the crowds reach Maya Bay). Anniversary or honeymoon. You want a specific route (e.g. 3 islands instead of the standard 2). High season when group tours are overcrowded.
When a group tour is the better choice
Travelling alone or as a couple with no special requirements. Budget is limited. You want to meet other tourists along the way. Your dates are flexible — not tied to a specific day.
What's included in a private tour from Thailand U Tour
Hotel transfer, Russian-speaking guide, snorkelling equipment, lunch on board or on the island, national park entrance fees. Everything a group tour includes — but the boat is yours and the schedule is flexible.
