What the "rains" actually look like

Phuket's monsoon season is nothing like the apocalyptic footage you see online. A typical May day: sunny morning until 13:00, a heavy shower for 30–60 minutes in the afternoon, then sun again. Temperature: 30–33°C. Humidity is higher than in winter but manageable.

Serious weather hits in September–October: bigger swells, murkier sea, some tours cancelled. May and June are a transitional period — conditions are much more pleasant.
